The Narrow Margin: Charles McGraw and Marie Windsor, the dark lady of film noir, star in a 1952 train thriller. McGraw plays a cop guarding a gangster’s moll (Windsor) as they travel from Chicago to LA to testify before a grand jury. Also on the train are determined hitmen who know the moll is on the train but don’t know what she looks like. 71m. CC.
Square jawed Charles McGraw could play a tough cop, or a killer as he did in The Killers. Marie Windsor was too tall to play a leading lady against most Hollywood short male stars, but she gets a rare chance to shine in this low budget favorite. The little known Jacqueline White is fine in a supporting role.
In his introduction to this film Eddie Muller of Turner Classic Movies Noir Alley has only praise for this film and says it was the first one he ever presented in a filmnoir festival. Here is a link to his excellent intro.
